1. What air regulations does the state of Alabama follow?

• Alabama adheres to all federal emission standards for hazardous air pollutants (HAPs). National emission standards for hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), compliance dates and their rules and implementation are found in the following U.S. Environmental Protection Agency link: http://www.epa.gov/ttn/atw/eparules.html. The state of Alabama uses the federal hazardous list for emissions inventory.

2. Which state organization manages air pollution regulations?

• Air Division: The Alabama Department of Environmental Management's administers the Air Division. http://www.adem.state.al.us/programs/air/default.cnt.The Air Division has primary jurisdiction over all air emission sources within the State, except those emission sources located within Jefferson County or the City of Huntsville. The Air Pollution Control Programs within these areas are administered by theJefferson County Department of Health (www.jcdh.org) and the City of Huntsville Department of Natural Resources (www.hsvcity.com/NatRes/), respectively.

3. What are the responsibilities of the Air Division?

The Air Division has responsibility to insure that Alabama's air quality meets federal standards using the following procedures:

• Alabama's Air Pollution Control Program: See Division 3 of the ADEM Administrative Code. Division 3 regulations include emission standards and control requirements. Division 3 also sets forth the permitting requirements for air emission sources.
