1. What air regulations does the state of Utah follow?

• The state of Utah adheres to all federal emission standards for hazardous air pollutants (HAPs). National emission standards for HAPs, compliance dates and their rules and implementation are found in the following U.S. Environmental Protection Agencylink: http://www.epa.gov/ttn/atw/eparules.html. The state of Utah's HAPs list with minimum emissions is used for emission inventory. 2. Which state organization manages air pollution regulation ?

• Division of Air Quality: The Utah Department of Environmental Quality http://www.deq.utah.gov/ houses the Division of Air Quality http://www.airquality.utah.gov/. Its primary mission is to enforce federal and state regulations, monitor air quality and assure the cleanest air possible for its citizens.

3. What are the specific responsibilities of the Division of Air Quality?

• Oversee Compliance of Air Quality Rules: Major and minor Source Compliance sections are responsible for ensuring that all regulatory requirements are met. This is done through inspections audits and enforcement; http://www.airquality.utah.gov/Compliance/index.htm
• Oversee Air Monitoring: The Air Monitoring Center is responsible for operating and maintaining an ambient air monitoring network that protects the health and welfare of the citizens of Utah; http://www.airmonitoring.utah.gov/
• Administer State Implementation Plan: Each state is responsible for developing plans to demonstrate how federal air standards will be achieved, maintained, and enforced. These plans make up the state implementation plan; http://www.airquality.utah.gov/Planning/SIP/index.htm
• Permitting: Responsible for issuing permits for any operation that emits any contaminant into the air. Such permits will often set limits on the amount of a contaminant that can be released, the amount of material that can be processed, or how dark a smoke plume can be; http://www.airquality.utah.gov/Permits/index.htm
