1. What air regulations does the state of Rhode Island follow?
- The state of Rhode Island adheres to all federal emission standards for hazardous air pollutants (HAPs). National emission standards for HAPs, compliance dates and their rules and implementation are found in the following U.S. Environmental Protection Agency link :http://www.epa.gov/ttn/atw/eparules.html. Air Pollution Regulation No. 22: Air Toxics: was first promulgated by Rhode Island in 1988 and listed Acceptable Ambient Levels for forty substances. Those substances were selected as the stationary source non-criteria air pollutants that were most likely adversely impact public health, considering toxicity and the quantity of the pollutants emitted in the State. 2. Which state organization manages air pollution regulations?
- Office of Air Resources: The Department of Environmental Management http://www.dem.ri.gov/index.htm houses the Office of Air Resources http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/benviron/air/index.htm. The Office of Air Resources (OAR) is responsible for the preservation, protection and improvement of air quality in Rhode Island. This is accomplished, in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, by regulating the emission of air pollutants from stationary and mobile emission sources. Planning, permitting, air pollutant emission inventory, air quality monitoring and inspecting emission sources are among the major activities of OAR.
